He also worked as the Commissioner and Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Tourism in three different spells; Director of Tourism in the Government of India; Divisional Railway Manager for Delhi; Chief Mechanical Engineer of the Northern Railway and the Director of the National Rail Museum besides other assignments.
Ashwani Lohani holds a Limca  Record for his four engineering  degrees  in the disciplines of Mechanical, Electrical, Metallurgical and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering.
