Description

"Professor Saiyid Nurul Hasan (1921-93), played an important, even a leading role in giving a new direction to history writing in India, immediately before, and after Independence. His vision of history was shaped by the 'nationalist... Allahabad school of history writing...." (S. Nurul Hasan, Religion, State and Society in Medieval India, edited and introduced by Satish Chandra, OUP, p. 1) t t t Prominent western scholar, Richard B. Barnett refers to the 'Allahabad School of History... while discussing the theories of decline of the Mughal rule in India. (Richrad B. Barnett, North India between Empires, Awadh, the Mughals and the British, 1720-1801, University of Virginia, 1980; Delhi, 1897, 1st Indian edition). t t t Allahabad School of History was, in fact, the nucleus of the Indian Liberal School of history-writing - Professor Ravinder Kumar, former Professor of History, Allahabad University and former Director Nehru Memorial Museum and Library.
